Sudoku Unlimited App Reviews

I like it.

I played their free Sudoku Daily game for about a year so switching to this version was a natural. The interface was a little awkward until I got used to it, but I do like the fact that the puzzle fills up as much of the screen as possible (making it easier to read). The sound effects are annoying as heck, so I shut them off a long time ago. The main selling point for me is the puzzles [on the clinically insane level] are tough and the puzzles in this version are considerably tougher than those in Sudoku Daily.

So-So Sudoku

I agree with "interface is awful" comment. Cannot see to solve unless indoors. Numbers should be larger in squares. (All skins.) Themed skins are silly/hard-to-read, standard skin is okay, but in sunlight you cant tell blue (given) numbers from black (filled in numbers). Plays fine, saves fine, opens quickly, but no tracking of statistics at all. A fair price for a fair product.

Not worth my money

This app was decent enough at first, but even the "most challenging" level was far too easy. I shouldnt be able to solve the hardest puzzles in under five minutes! Definitely not worth the money I spent on it. If youre looking for sudoku, this is NOT the app for you unless youre a total novice.

Change of icon?

Can you please change the icon? I remember it used to be another one quite a while back, Thanks!

A Solid Sudoku Game

I play a lot of Sudoku so was excited to see a decent version with good reviews. Since I only do 5 star level puzzles, I have mainly been working on the 2 highest levels. And I should say that they do provide a good challenge although the highest level isnt anything near many of the harder books (e.g., Brown/Black Belt Sudoku) or London Times. That is fine and I have yet to work on a puzzle that has multiple solutions as apparently other Sudoku iPhone apps erroneously have. I enjoy the skins a lot although the default graphite one is not as easy to read as the other two. The pencil one is nice but it is sometimes hard to distinguish between givens and your entered numbers. So I just use the Vanilla one mostly now. I might suggest control over use of colors, font, size and style as a future ER. If Hints are your thing, they apparently did a nice job with the implementation of this feature. Personally, I never use them or notes either so cant comment much beyond this. I only write one thing in a box and that is the actual number itself. A few other features I enjoy include ability to listen to music (iPod) while playing a game. Also, your current game is automatically saved if you need to hit the Home button.  Some folks have commented about the pop-up entry pad positioning. I have gotten used to it, but I do agree with folks that it probably shouldnt cover the row, column or 3x3 box the selected square is in. Currently, the positioning avoids the row and column, but it does sometimes display within same 3x3 box. Also, the interface is a little awkward if you accidentally enter a number by mistake. Instead of hitting the X as one might expect, you need to hit the number again to delete it (not all that intuitive at first). One other gripe I do have is how the setting for Show Errors works. Essentially, it displays the number in Red if it is not the correct value. I had thought that it would only do this for numbers where there was already a duplicate displayed. So to me this current implementation was sort of like cheating. Since it is fairly easy to hit the wrong number by mistake, it might be nice to have a Show Duplicates setting to control this. I think that would be much less intrusive than the current Show Errors setting. Otherwise, this is a solid Sudoku game well worth the price!

Dont buy if you have want it in an Ipod

It just couldnt get installed on my Ipod. It asked for a the lattest software version, and my Ipod has it. I guess its only designed for Ipads and Macphones.

Great app!

I play this fairly often when I have a little time. I like the idea of the timed levels of difficulty. This game gets incrementaly better every time theres a release. My wife also plays it every night. Great app. And the price is right!

Great, but only a shadow of the Palm Sudoku I played years ago

I very much like this Sudoku game, though I find most of the skins difficult to see. It is quick and has a large library of games. The "Clinically Insane" games are appropriately difficult (sometimes near impossible). However, ... Here are some features I was used to on a palm sudoku game I used to play on a Palm 500 some years back: 1. Saving the state of a game, so you can try a thread without having to reveal errors, and if it fails you can return to where you started the thread. 2. Color coded notes. That will allow the user to prioritize notes and give some other advantages. 3. Blank games, so the user can enter his/her own games. 4. Saving completed or incomplete games as favorites (or games to return to), so you can return to or clear and play them again at a future time. 5. Finally, the Palm game computed random games (difficulty degree was a bit random too). That is a nice feature, and the iPod should be able to compute the game in seconds, rather than the several minutes the Palm 500 took.

Great App, Minimal Support

While I absolutely love this app and its implementation of Sudoku gameplay, the fact that the developer stopped updating it is disheartening. At least give the icon an iPhone 4 resolution update!

My favorite version

Been using different sudoku apps. Im most comfortable with this one. Just a little bit too expensive for such genre.

Good user interface, varying difficulty

O used to have a Palm and enjoyed the Sudoku app there. After switching to an iPhone I picked this app after reading many review. I play Sudoku to kill time and always play on the highest level of difficulty. I usually dont care how long it takes to solve a puzzle. Sooner or later they all get cracked. I never do try and error but only apply strict reasoning. What I noticed about this app is that it has a very nice and useful interface. I make a lot of use of the "fill in" function that shows me all possible numbers for a field based on the simple exclusion rule. I then apply the higher level rules to eliminate more numbers until the puzzle is solved. The one thing that strikes me as odd about this app is the variation in difficulty of the puzzles. It is huge! At the highest level, I still get almost trivial problems. But also extremely hard ones to crack. Tonight I actually had an insolvable one!! I give it z 4 star rating for entertainment value and quality of user interface.

Could be better

While the interface is nice and relatively useful, it does tend to get in the way more often than not. Someone has apparently not bothered to put a whole lot of effort into this, considering the fact that it doesnt automatically clear pencil marks as soon as a number is provided unless you have auto marks on. Additionally, some of themes look frustrating, mostly due to the fact that they have different look on the same numbers, based on the square theyre put in. While that is a nice touch, it tends to get in the way. The difficulty level is jumpy at best, playing several games on the highest level presented me with some very easy puzzles, a few difficult ones and one that required guessing to solve. Overall, too high a price for the quality offered and too much fluff instead of actually useful features.

No hi res support

Ive had this app forever, Im disappointed that theres still no support for retina displays. I just upgraded from the 3GS to the 4S and I was expecting this app to look better. The last time it was updated was 2009. Its the best sudoku game on the App Store but it doesnt look like it.

Best sudoku app available

This is the best sudoku app, by far. However, it needs to be updated for retina display and the iPhone 5 screen. Once it is updated, 5 stars all the way. I play it daily.

Best Sudoku App - Please Update for iPhone 5

This is the only Sudoku game I care to play but its well over due for an update!

Breaks on iOS 7

Does not work on iOS 7. :(

Not iOS 7 Compatible

This just plain does not work properly in iOS 7. Looks like it has been abandoned. Too bad. Was a great App.

Forget it with iOS7

One of my favorites up to now. New games will not load after iOS7 upgrade. NO response from developers support site. Should be removed from App Store.

Get hooked and then ripped off.

This was by far my favorite app from the day I bought iPhone 4 years ago... until last week when I upgraded to iOS 7 and now it doesnt work. I emailed the support and have heard nothing back. I think it is terrible that a paid puzzle app (one that should be fairly easy to modify and maintain) would stop being supported. I will never buy a Phase2 product again.

Screen size needs updating.

Hasnt been updated in 4 years. Needs to adapt to iPhone 5 screen dimensions.
